Even if this had not happened I would only give the hotel 3 stars as it is in severe need of refurbishment.Source: Salt Lake City International Airport Turns out that's where they charged the credit card the full amount - no adjustment (other than canceling the second night). Manager showed me the charge for the one night, then showed me the amount in the credit column and said 'That's where we wrote it off - you don't owe anything'. We stopped on the way out of the hotel to get a receipt and see what they meant by 'adjust the bill'. They canceled our reservation for the next night and said they would 'adjust the bill'. Management was unaware of the incident (staff had not reported it). We did not sleep well that night and did not feel safe leaving our stuff in the room while we attended my dad's funeral the next day (original booking was for two nights) so we checked out the next morning. We had to call back down later to make sure the other key cards had been returned. We called down to the front desk and the response was 'OMG how did that happen?' (That's what we wanted to know - how does a hotel system rent the same room twice?).
They did not get in because we had the slider bolt engaged. About an hour later, someone else attempted to enter the room with a key card. We checked in to room 328 on a Thursday night and got settled.
